Art In America, February 2012

The cover of the February 2012 issue of Art in America featured a painting by David Hammons, a lead-in to "To Rest Lightly on the Earth," Raphael Rubinstein’s sequel to his influential 2009 article "Provisional Painting." After considering past instances of provisionality in the work of Alberto Giacometti, Phillip Guston and Joan Mitchell, "To Rest Lightly on the Earth" concludes with four "interludes" devoted to contemporary artists: Sergej Jensen, Dana Frankfort, James Bishop and David Hammons.

Headquartered in New York, AICA-USA's membership comprises over 400 critics, curators, scholars, and art historians working throughout the United States.
