The AICA panel discussion “The Artist-Critic: The Critic-Artist” at the CAA conference will be held on February 11 at the NYC Hilton between 12.30-2.00 in the Clinton Suite, 2nd Floor, Hilton Hotel, New York.
The panelists invited by moderator Richard Kalina are: Robert Berlind, Christopher French, Mira Schor, Anne Thompson, Trevor Winkfield and Alexi Worth. The event is coordinated by AICA-USA Board member Phyllis Braff.
The working artist who writes about art can bring something quite different to the practice of art criticism. How does sustained engagement with the making of art shape critical perspective, and conversely, how does writing affect the critic’s art? On the writing end, is the artist-critic subject to conscious or not so conscious constraints in terms of critical approach, choice of subject matter, and strength or duration of involvement, or is he or she more independent? The panelists will explore the many facets of this hybrid life.
Admission is free and open to all. CAA Conference registration is not required for this session.
UPDATED: The Sheritan Hotel is offereing special rates to attendees of the CAA conference, the offer is good through January 31st. Please visit their website to inquire further.
